(AP) JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Police continue to hold vigil at a hospital for two officers critically wounded in a gun battle in Jersey City.
Officer Marc Dinardo was shot in the left side of the face and Officer Michael Camacho was shot in the neck.
Thursday's shootout left six other officers injured and two armed robbery suspects dead.
Authorities said the violence erupted during a stakeout.
Police said Hassan Shakur began firing a pump-action shotgun when police approached.
The shootout ended when SWAT officers fought their way into an apartment where Shakur and Amanda Anderson had holed up.
Police were met by shotgun blasts that ripped through walls and doors.
DiNardo had arrested Shakur in 2002 for illegal firearms possession.
