IACP Conference, Chicago, IL (October 24, 2011) – Today’s police officers are every bit as future-focused as their colleagues in business, finance or education. Making sure they keep their skills at the top of their game requires continuing education and learning that could help them advance their knowledge.
Police Chiefs and department management personnel who are keenly interested in advanced education opportunities for their staffs have partnered with Colorado Technical University (CTU), a university providing real-world, industry-current programs.
“CTU has a wealth of degree programs at every level – associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate – that can fit the varying interests and paths police officers might choose,” notes Richard Holloway, CTU’s Program Director, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security and Paralegal Studies. “From technology and human services to criminal justice, cybercrime, emergency management and homeland security, our programs can incorporate learning that leads to real-world expertise.”
Flexibility is key for programs targeted to busy professionals like police and security personnel who may not be able to accommodate a fixed classroom schedule or travel to campus locations.
“CTU is all about giving control to our students for how, when and where they study,” Holloway explains. “We are a network of technologically-advanced campuses that have pioneered aspects of online education. Many of our degree programs are offered completely online, while students can also choose a combination of in-classroom and online learning. In some cases, students may want to complete their degrees in a 100% classroom environment.”
Employers are already taking advantage of CTU’s expertise in delivering higher education opportunities that may build on an employee’s existing skills while taking their learning to the next level. The execution of that idea is the CTU Professional Learning Model™, which places students in the active role of collaborative problem-solvers and project initiators, engaging them in complex, real-world situations and challenging them to organize, research and solve problems as active participants in their education.
“CTU offers our police officer students the support, flexibility and resources to advance personally and professionally. They already lead exciting professional lives, and we want our programs to engage them in new and exciting ways as well,” Holloway concludes.
CTU’s programs are offered at campuses in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Pueblo, CO; Sioux Falls, SD; and online via the award-winning Virtual Campus.
