OMAHA, Neb A Nebraska man serving a life sentence for killing his 4-year-old son wants his conviction thrown out and is citing evidence-tampering charges against a crime scene investigator among his arguments.
In court documents filed Monday, Ivan Henk alleges one or more officials intentionally falsified reports. Henk pleaded guilty in 2005 and was sentenced to life in prison for killing Brendan Gonzalez, whose body has never been found.
Henk mentions David Kofoed (CO-fed), commander of Douglas County's investigations unit, and his handling of forensic evidence in the case.
Kofoed has been accused of evidence tampering and faces federal and state charges. He is accused of planting a speck of blood in a car linked to two murder suspects who were later cleared.
