Profiles in Progressive Policing

Who’s got what it takes?

Crawford Coates | From the February 2013 Issue Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Law Officer began its series America’s Finest: Profiles in Progressive Policing in January 2012. Profiles have included Post Falls (Idaho) PD, Los Angeles Sheriffs’ Department, Lincoln (Neb.) PD, Nassau County (N.Y.) PD, Leesburg (Va.) PD and Redlands (Calif.) PD. Each of these agencies is, in many respects, vastly different from one another. What they share is an uncommon drive for excellence. Whether it’s trailblazing technology, a top-notch citizen volunteer organization, social media campaigns that empower or a distinctive staffing strategy—these are all agencies finding ways to do more with less.

Now we need your help.

Do you know an agency that deserves to be profiled? We’re looking for agencies that foster cultures of innovation, empowerment, safety and community service. The agency must be willing to provide excellent high-resolution photographs and specifics about what they are doing. (Details matter: In the case of Post Falls, they provided photographs and the model of chair they provide dispatch—good stuff!)

If you know such an agency, please email Law Officer at editor@lawofficer.com, providing bulleted examples of what makes them so great. Limit: 300 words. If you’re chosen, we’ll follow up with you for the details.
