A Moment of Reflection for the Holiday

Remember the fallen & why you do what you do

Dale Stockton | Wednesday, November 24, 2010

As you work the holiday weekend and hopefully have at least a moment with loved ones, remember that we have fellow officers who have fallen this year and many who have been seriously injured.

Law enforcement presents a unique set of challenges and a requirement to be in the middle of experiences that you might prefer to avoid and certainly wish you could forget. Take a moment and reflect on the value of what you do and the fact that the job of policing is a very special calling. You're literally standing in the gap for those you're protecting. Even those who are critical of the police recognize the need for the thin blue line that protects our country. For everyone who criticizes you, there are hundreds of people who appreciate what you do and are very glad that they don’t have to do it.

At Law Officer, we are very privileged to serve those who serve others. As you go into your shift, I hope that each of you will remember the five key points of Below 100:

  • Wear your belt.
  • Wear your vest.
  • Watch your speed.
  • WIN – What’s Important Now?
  • Remember: Complacency Kills!

Enjoy your family and friends and don’t eat too much. You want to make sure your body armor still fits!
