Terrorism-Response Training

Law Officer Volume 3 Issue 8 | From the August 2007 Issue Tuesday, July 31, 2007

The Virtual Terrorism Response Academy (VTRA), developed by the Interactive Media Laboratory (IML) at Dartmouth Medical School, has introduced the terrorism-response course Ops-Plus for WMD Hazmat, available on CD-ROM. The interactive course provides more than 16 hours of training to handle chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) emergencies.

Throughout the interactive program, police, fire and EMS trainees learn from leading WMD and hazmat-response experts. The course begins in the simulated Hazmat Learning Lab and proceeds to interactive, simulated emergency situations. During the program, the trainee uses accurately modeled instruments, answers various WMD-related questions and makes tactical decisions. In the debriefing section, an expert trainer explains the impact of the trainee s decisions during the simulations.

For more information, and to purchase the Ops-Plus course, visit the IML and VTRA Web site at http://iml.dartmouth.edu/vtra. Individual copies cost $35. To inquire about quantity discounts, contact Tim Elliott at timothy.elliott@dartmouth.edu, and include VTRA in the subject line.
