Tuesday, March 5, 2013

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Henderson police say a SWAT team vehicle was destroyed after an officer drove several miles with a blown tire and the SUV caught fire.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/12pV37M ) an officer was driving home about 11 p.m. Wednesday night when a tire blew on his unmarked Chevy Tahoe.

The newspaper reports the officer continued driving until the vehicle started smoking and eventually caught fire on Somerset Hills Avenue, near Southern Highlands Parkway.

Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul says the officer was able to save several weapons from the fire, although the $50,000 vehicle was a total loss. A computer and other equipment were destroyed, although Paul said the value of those items wasn't yet established.

The officer didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday morning.
