DALLAS (AP) — Police say a Florida detective who was stabbed during a prisoner escape near Dallas is in "delicate condition" but will recover.
Miami-Dade police said Wednesday that 54-year-old Det. Jaime (JAY'-mee) Pardinas will take months to recover from stab wounds to his neck and back.
Authorities say 42-year-old convicted sex offender Alberto Morales used his eyeglasses to stab Pardinas and escape while being transferred from Florida to Nevada. Police say Morales was so disruptive on a flight into Houston that they decided to transfer him by ground the rest of the way.
Morales escaped when the detectives stopped at a store on their way to pick up a third officer who was flying in to the Dallas area. Policy requires there to be three officers for a ground transfer.
