JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Police in Clayton County say an officer has been hospitalized in serious condition after being hit by a truck while chasing a burglary suspect.
WGCL-TV (http://bit.ly/VWd2z0 ) reports police were responding to a call about two men stealing metal from an area behind a department store Wednesday.
When police arrived, one of the men ran and an officer chased him. The second suspect got in a black truck and struck the officer as he chased the first suspect. Officials say the man abandoned the truck and fled on foot.
The first suspect has been arrested and police are searching for the man who ran over the officer.
The officer is hospitalized at Atlanta Medical Center and his identity has not been released.
