ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Police Officer William Talbert died as the result of contracting Hepatitis C following a blood transfusion in 1980 after being injured by a drunk driver.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, he was pinned between his cruiser and another vehicle when a drunk driver struck one of the vehicles. He was transported to a hospital where he underwent a blood transfusion. Later, it was discovered that the blood was infected with Hepatitis C.
Talbert, a U.S. Navy veteran, had served with the Montgomery County Police Department for 13 years until he was forced to medically retire in 1984. He passed away on Jan. 27, 2012.
