MASON, Mich. — Michigan State Police say they're participating in disaster response training that includes responding to a simulated earthquake.
Police say the exercise was scheduled for Tuesday at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason, near Lansing. Several other agencies and the American Red Cross are participating. Troopers and a helicopter were expected to be involved and a simulated emergency shelter was to be set up.
Police announced details of the training so prevent public concern about the increased law enforcement presence at the fairgrounds.
The exercise is a part of a larger training effort spearheaded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency along a Midwest fault line.
