PHOENIX - Phoenix police say an officer has been fatally shot near the city's downtown.

Sgt. Trent Crump says a police sergeant was shot while on duty between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday night. Investigators were still working the scene early Tuesday.
Crump says the sergeant was working alone at the time of the shooting. He says authorities won't release the officer's name and age until later Tuesday.
