Master Police Officer Jeremiah Goodson of Lumberton (N.C.) Police Department was shot and killed as he and another officer attempted to arrest a homicide suspect at a local gas station, according to ODMP.
Goodson, who was off duty at the time, was at the gas station and recognized the subject as being wanted for homicide. He called the department and let other officers know of the subject's location.
According to ODMP, another officer arrived and both officers began to approach the car where the subject was sitting. The man opened fire from inside the vehicle. The bullet hit Goodson in the chest. The second officer and other responding units from the department took the man into custody.
