Calif.-- Riverside County sheriff's deputies in Moreno Valley cited 13 motorists for failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk sting that employed an undercover deputy dressed as a giant orange traffic cone.
The operation was conducted from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Eucalyptus Avenue and Running Deer Road, a news release said.
The Sheriff's Department used the costumed officer because many motorists say they never see the pedestrian in the crosswalk, the release said. Earlier this year, a deputy dressed as the Gingerbread Man for a similar operation.
In addition to the crosswalk citations, three motorists were cited for talking on their cellphones and three vehicles were impounded because the driver was not licensed.
