KOB - Eyewitness News 4 has been given a copy of dash cam video that shows how a Portales officer’s rush to an emergency ended in a rollover crash. It all started with a 911 call. A frantic father reported his child had just been taken from his home. Officer Lee Fugerson was nearby when the call came in. “He was responding. He had his lights activated and was heading North on U.S. 70. The investigation revealed that he was travelling higher than the posted 45 mile per hour speed limit,” said State Police Captain Jimmy Glascock. What happens next is caught on the dash cam video. The tape shows Officer Fugerson responding to the call when a white car pulls out into traffic, directly into the officer’s path. State police say the 79-year-old man behind the wheel failed to yield. The officer swerves to avoid the car and skids out of control. Officer Fugerson’s police cruiser slams into a curb, then flips over onto its roof.
