Capt. Travis Yates, Law Officer’s 2008 Trainer of the Year, will examine the culture of law enforcement that allows—and sometimes even encourages—officers to drive beyond the threshold of what’s reasonable. He will then walk attendees through simple steps that will enhance the safety consciousness of their departments, including departmental policy. He will also review the importance of emphasizing not only skills but cognitive aspects in driver training, so officers will drive to survive.
